Urinalysis/Drug Testing

The Court may order a condition of presentence or of supervised release and probation will require compliance with drug testing. Drug testing is often performed in the office and performed through a random urinalysis program being operated by the New York Northern Probation Office. This Call-in Program Telephone Number is (800) 676-8442. Drug testing hours are:

  • See our Offices page for specific office hours.

Here are the detailed instructions for complying with your drug treatment program as part of your supervision.

  • You are required to telephone the U.S. Probation Office EACH AND EVERY DAY, INCLUDING WEEKENDS, between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 am for the following day testing. For example, you may call from 6:00pm on Sunday to 8:00am on Monday to receive reporting instructions for Monday. Keep in mind the sooner you call, the better you can plan your schedule for the day.
  • When you call the office you will be prompted to press "1" if you are calling for the urinalysis program. You will then select "1" to continue the message in English, or "2" to continue the message in Spanish. You will be prompted to enter your identification number and depress the # button using your touch-tone phone. An automated voice will repeat the number you entered. If the number is correct, you will again be prompted to enter "1". If you entered a valid ID number, a message will tell you to either report for testing at a designated location and time, or that you are not required to report for a test.

When you report to provide a urine sample, you will be required to:

  1. Wash your hands before and after you submit a urine specimen
  2. Submit an observed urine specimen (men will be directed to open and lower their pants, women will be directed to start, stop, and then restart their urine stream)
  3. Provide at least 30ml of unadulterated urine for testing
  4. Bring picture identification (ID) with you
  5. Attempting to submit a urine sample which is not your own through the use of any device is a violation of testing procedures
  6. DO NOT EAT ANY FOOD THAT CONTAINS POPPY SEEDS
  7. DO NOT DRINK AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF WATER
